With regard to recent clemency to Australian narcotic convict Schapelle Leigh Corby he said here on Friday that it would not lessen the spirit of law enforcers to carry out their duty.
"I think Corby`s clemency will not reduce or weaken the fighting spirit of law enforcers," he said.
Corby has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for smuggling4.2 kilograms of cannabis in 2004. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono recently cut her sentence by five years citing humanitarian grounds drawing criticism from several quarters.
BNN chief executive for Bali province Senior Commissioner IGK Budhiarta shared Gories` view saying that his men were not affected by Corby`s clemency.
"It (the clemency) does not affect our men`s performance," he said.
He said his side kept monitoring and safeguarding against narcotics crimes to prevent their further spread.
The head of Bali`s Ngurah Rai airport customs and excise service, I Made Wijaya, also shared Gories` view saying Corby`s clemency did not affect efforts by his office to prevent smuggling of narcotics into the island.
Gories Mere said President Yudhoyono`s decision to give clemency to Corby was not against the law.(*)
