Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government through its foreign ministry has issued a travel advisory for its citizens wishing to travel to Syria.

"The foreign ministry has advised them to reconsider their plan, because the situation in Syria is not conducive," the foreign ministry said in a statement received here on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the government has periodically repatriated its citizens from Syria to Indonesia.

As of now, 108 citizens are still at the Indonesian embassy awaiting repatriation. Thirty-four of them are scheduled to be flown back to Indonesia on Sunday, while the others are yet to finish their paperwork.

The government has already sent 223 Indonesian citizens home.

Foreign minister Marty Natalegawa said on Monday the Indonesian embassy was trying to repatriate all Indonesia citizens in the Arab country, but the process was possible only on a voluntary basis.
