Hazel Palmes, provincial health officer, told a local radio station Thursday that the town of Virac recorded the highest number of casualties with eight deaths.
Palmes said local officials placed the town under a state of calamity.
"We are asking the government to help people in the province have access to potable water. This is their immediate need," she said.
Health authorities are advising people to be more careful with what they eat or drink.
