Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Fourth ASEAN--U.S. Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) Meeting was held at the ASEAN Secretariat, here, Wednesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Wilfrido V. Villacorta, the Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN; and David Lee Carden, the Ambassador of the U.S. to ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat said in a statement here, Thursday.

The Meeting, held in conjunction with celebration of the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN--U.S. Dialogue Relations in 2012, had fruitful discussions and reviewed the progress the Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-U.S. Enhanced Partnership 2011-2015 and the Joint Statement of the 3rd ASEAN-U.S. Leaders` Meeting, which were adopted at the 3rd ASEAN-U.S. Leaders` Meeting on 18 November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia.

Among topics discussed in the meeting were trafficking in persons, human rights, trade and investment, energy, food security, intellectual property, disaster management, pandemic preparedness, education, environment, science and technology as well as connectivity.

The Meeting also discussed outcomes of the 1st ASEAN-U.S. Eminent Persons Group held on 20-21 May 2012 in Manila, the Philippines, and looked forward to the convening of the 2nd ASEAN--U.S. EPG Meeting in September 2012 in Myanmar.

Discussions focused on preparations for the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) Session with the U.S./19th ASEAN Regional Forum/2nd East Asia Summit Foreign Minister Meeting in which the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will participate in July 2012 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

To further deepen ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue relations and raise the profile of ASEAN in the U.S., the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN is preparing to visit the U.S. in September 2012 to meet U.S. high-ranking officials.

The Meeting also discussed preparations of the 4th ASEAN-U.S. Leaders` Meeting that is scheduled for November 2012 in Phnom Penh.
