Gaza (ANTARA News) - Islamic HAMAS movement on Sunday said the victory of Mohammed Moursi of the Muslim Brotherhood as Egypt`s president supports its resistance against the Israeli occupation.

"The victory of Moursi boosts the program that rejects the occupation and any cooperation and normalization with the occupation," said Mahmoud Zahar, a leader of the Palestinian movement which controls the Gaza Strip.

"The loser in this battle is Israel and its agents in the region," Zahar said as quoted by Xinhua News Agency.

HAMAS, a historical offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood founded in the 1980s, routed forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and took over Gaza in 2007.

HAMAS expressed hope that the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt will help it overcome the sanctions and the closure that Israel and former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak imposed on it.
