"I know the KPK has investigated it," State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has investigated an alleged graft case at state airline company PT Merpati Nusantara, State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has confirmed.

"I know the KPK has investigated it," he said at his office here on Thursday.

But he declined to reveal the name of the former Merpati official implicated in the case.

Merpati President Director Rudy Setyopurnomo said earlier that the corruption level at the company had reached 60 per cent.

At a hearing with the House of Representatives` (DPR) Commission XI some time ago, Rudy had noted that bad conduct on the part of Merpati employees had been causing the state airline company to suffer a loss of Rp3 billion per day.

Even aviation turbine (avtur) fuel at the company was stolen, he said.

"The `culture` at the company is not good. There are many slanders. The corruption level at the company is very high, reaching 60 per cent," he had admitted.

He said that he was ready to report the findings of alleged graft at the company to the state enterprises minister in response to the ministry`s plan to conduct an audit of state firms.

Merpati has been co-operating with the Finance and Development Comptroller (BPKP), the State Audit Board (BPK), and KPK to rid the airline company of corruption, he said.

"If the State Enterprises Ministry asks, we will hand over the findings to it," he said.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said that KPK was ready to probe alleged graft cases at Merpati if the management of state airline company handed the findings to the anti-graft body.

Admittedly, KPK had received a report of alleged corruption at Merpati last year, but the agency had not investigated the case, he said.(*)
