"The region will not advance without investment."
Mamuju (ANTARA News) - Chinese investment in West Sulawesi reaches Rp18 trillion this year making it the biggest foreign investment, governor Anwar Adnan Saleh said.

"Foreign countries` total investment in West Sulawesi reaches no less than Rp20 trillion. The country that has invested the biggest is China with its investment reaching Rp18 trillion," he said here on Tuesday.

He said the Chinese investment was the result of cooperation made by the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) to accelerate development in the youngest province.

The memorandum of understanding for the cooperation has been signed and if all goes well the realization would be done this year, he said.

He said as a new governor he had taken all efforts to seek funds from home and abroad adding "acceleration of development in West Sulawesi will be impossible if it only relies on the regional budget without help from the central government and donor countries."

The governor said he hoped the arrival of investment in the region would overcome the challenges and boost economy of the region.

"The region will not advance without investment. So, people must support all investment plans to be carried out in the region," he said.
