BPS Chief Suryamin said on Monday that Indonesia`s exports reached US$16.72 billion while its imports totaled US$17.21 billion in May 2012, resulting in a deficit of US$845 million.
Indonesia`s imports rose slightly by 1.61 percent to US$17.21 billion in May 2012 from US$16.94 billion a month earlier.
"The increase was chiefly fueled by non-oil/non-gas imports which rose by 6.13 percent or US$675.2 million," Suryamin said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia`s exports in May 2012 increased by 3.41 percent to US$16.72 billion from US$16.173 billion in the previous month, according to the BPS.
The May 2012 exports consisted of oil and gas commodities worth US$3.71 billion and non-oil/non-gas commodities worth US$13.12 billion. (*)
