"The R.A. airstrip is a cross border airstrip."
Malinau (ANTARA News) - East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak inaugurated the R.A. Bessing airstrip terminal in Malinau District, East Kalimantan, near the border with Malaysia.

"The R.A. airstrip is a cross border airstrip but there are also flights departing for Tarakan city by the Susi Airlines which uses two planes," the governor said here over the weekend.

The inauguration of the airport terminal was part of the governor`s agenda during his visit to the northern areas of East Kalimantan.

He said that the airstrip was built in 2009 and completed in 2010 with a fund of Rp16 billion which was taken from the regional budget.

The airport sits on an area of 48 hectares with a runway stretching 1,400 meters long. The airstrip`s new terminal was built in two floors. The terminal is built on 1,500 sq meters, the second widest district airport terminal in East Kalimantan after the Kalimarau in Berau district which sits on a 9,000 sq m plot of land.
