I'd like to go back [to Thailand], but I don't want to go back and create more conflict...Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has expressed unwillingness to return to his home country, on grounds that it might lead to more conflict, unless there is a possibility of reconciliation.
"I'd like to go back [to Thailand], but I don't want to go back and create more conflict. I want to go back to reconcile," Thaksin said, after sharing his experience at the Strategic Review Forum on Southeast Asia here on Tuesday.
He expressed hope that Thailand would have a better democratic system, adding that the current government was not good for the development of democracy in the country.
Thaksin urged the Thai people and the country's constitutional court to move towards an improved democratic system, although he admitted that he himself had yet to discover the right process to do so.
"We have to move forward in a way that is acceptable to all parties. We don't want to create more conflict in the country," he stated.
Talking about the democracy in Indonesia, Thaksin said he was impressed by the way the country had reformed its democratic system.
"I'm very impressed by how Indonesia has moved forward politically, socially and economically, as it has been growing very impressively. It is because of the strengthened democratic process that the country is advancing step by step," he added.
