include the procurement of various seeds for planting more trees in forests and unused landDenpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Bali provincial government has set aside US$1.5 million to support environmental sustainability programmes this year, according to government spokesperson I Ketut Teneng.
"The allocation of funds from the regional budget has increased from the previous year's budget of US$1.29," he said.
Ketut Teneng added that the environmental programmes would focus on improving the income and welfare of the local community.
From the allocated funds, US$1.36 million will be used to encourage environmental sustainability, while US$146,186 will be used to develop the infrastructure for traditional environmental activities (Pekraman).
Ketut Teneng noted that the environmental sustainability programmes were in line with Regional Regulation No. 5/2011 on waste management and raising environmental awareness among villagers in the province.
"The programmes include the procurement of various seeds for planting more trees in forests and unused land, as well as for growing rare plants and bamboos," he said.
The programmes also involve encouraging the local communities to protect their lakes, rivers and seas.
Ketut Teneng said a part of the funds would be used to develop eco-friendly cesspools in some areas, expressing optimism that the pilot projects would be successful.
"All parties in the province are expected to take part actively, especially in their own areas," he added.
"We hope to develop Bali as a green province," Ketut Teneng stated.
