"The manufacturing industry will create more jobs, the steel industry will contribute to the implementation of MP3EI (master plan for the acceleration and expansion of the Indonesian economic development) program. We will also encourage shipbuilding industry," the President said after a limited cabinet meeting at the Industry Ministry here.
Yudhoyono said the development of the fertilizer industry was designed to support the agricultural sector to develop optimally.
By increasing the capacity of the steel industry, the government expected it would contribute to the implementation of MP3EI programs, he said.
Under the MP3EI programs, the government plans to spend trillions of rupiah to trigger growth in Indonesia. In the long run, the MP3EI programs are expected to make the country one of the top five global forces by 2025.
The programs mainly focus on infrastructure development in six corridors spread across the archipelago.
With economic activities growing evenly all over the country, sea transportation played a great role and therefore, the government would always encourage the development of the shipbuilding industry, the President said.
"It is important to develop the shipbuilding industry because in the future when the economy in all parts of the country grows, the root of logistics will be more efficient and when domestic trade is on the increase sea transportation will be of great significance," he said.
To develop small business, he said the government would continue to raise the amount of credits to up to tens of trillions or rupiahs per year.
Also present at the limited cabinet meeting were Vice President Boediono, Industry Minister MS Hidayat, Agriculture Minister Suswono and National Development Planning Minister Armida Alisjahbana. (*)
