"The case is still being investigated. The national police chief has sent a team from the National Police Headquarters which is made up of representatives from Bareskrim (criminal investigation department), Propam (professionalism and security affairs division) and Brimob," head of the public information bureau Snr Comr Agus Rianto said on Monday.
The team which was sent to the scene two days ago had conducted a series of investigations in coordination with the local police, he said.
"We hope the public would provide us with factual information. Otherwise, we will find it difficult to reveal the truth. Whoever knows the incident should inform us and we will trace it," he said.
One person was killed and five others injured when Brimob personnel were ransacking locals` homes, looking for thieves who allegedly stole fertilizer from the warehouse of state-owned plantation firm, PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VII.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered chief security minister Djoko Suyanto to handle the attack on Limbang Jaya village in Ogan Ilir district, South Sumatra, last Friday.
"Of course, the President has heard the incident in Ogan Komering Ilir. He has instructed the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs and his staff to find the best solution to the case. He also called on the public to exercise self-restraint because violent act in any form should not necessarily happen and should be avoided," presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said here on Monday.
