"We heard the Myanmarese foreign minister said just now that based on inputs Myanmar would consider accepting the OIC secretary general to visit Myanmar besides accepting the Turkish foreign minister," Marty said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said Myanmar is considering to accept the visit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary general to that country to check personally what has happened with the Rohingya ethnic group.

Marty said Myanmar`s foreign minister Wunna Maung Lwin made the statement during a meeting with him here on Tuesday.

"We heard the Myanmarese foreign minister said just now that based on inputs Myanmar would consider accepting the OIC secretary general to visit Myanmar besides accepting the Turkish foreign minister," he said.

Marty said this was one of the inputs from Indonesia given in line with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s directives.

He said during the meeting the Myanmarese foreign minister also said that Myanmar`s President Thein Sein had already received President Yudhoyono`s letter and would immediately reply it.

"The President`s letter has been handed to President Thein Sein and received well and Myanmar appreciated Indonesia`s view as a friendly country that has long had a good understanding over developments in Myanmar," he said.

Marty said Indonesia wished Myanmar could be more open to the international community with regard to the situation relating to the Rohingya.

"And we, in the talks with the Myanmarese foreign minister, have reiterated the importance of Myanmar to open the region so that the international community could check directly the actual developments there," he said. (*)
