Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The Kariangau container terminal in this East Kalimantan port city is to start operation next month.

State port operator PT Pelindo IV will soon set the terminal fully on stream after the trial run on September 12, Balikpapan mayor Rizal Effendi said here on Wednesday.

Big trucks and lorries are no longer allowed to pass through the city center, Rizal said, adding container trucks could use an access road directly to the port.

A 13-kilometer access road is being built to be completed this month, he said.

The people of the city have complained about city`s main roads being crowded with heavy trucks causing traffic jams.

The container terminal is already completed as scheduled in June, 2012 . (ASG/S012)
