"Therefore the corruption eradication effort should continue."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Law enforcement agencies in Indonesia should support and strengthen each other, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said during his state of the nation address at the House of Representatives on Thursday.
"As law enforcement institutions, the National Police (Polri), the Attorney General`s Office (AGO) and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should support and strengthen each other," the president said on the eve of Indonesia`s 67th anniversary of Independence.
President Yudhoyono`s statement also referred to the six main issues that have remained the focus of public attention during the last one year.
"Those issues are the homework we need to manage as a team. The government will certainly continue to make all out efforts to exercise its duties and obligations for solving these issues, which I will mention later," the president said.
He named the main issues as the corruption eradication effort, bureaucratic reform and good governance, social conflict and violence, investment climate and legal certainty, infrastructure development, and fiscal policy in face of global economic crisis.
Commenting on the issue of corruption, President Yudhoyono said that it is an extraordinary crime, which has impaired the process of development, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
He also asserted that there should be no conspiracy of any kind between the government, the House of Representatives, law enforcers and the business world to misuse the state`s money.
"But I have to admit that in reality there are a lot of corrupt officials in the central and regional governments, the House of Representatives, the Regional Legislative Council, and among law enforcers themselves," the president noted.
Yudhoyono added that the practice of corruption started from minor cases of bribery and gratification and has evolved into the complex system of money laundering.
"Therefore the corruption eradication effort should continue," Yudhoyono said, adding that the law must be enforced regardless of a person`s official position.
