... the main focus is to build a strong service and spare parts network...
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - India's largest automotive company, Tata Motors, has officially started its Indonesian operations with its subsidiary, PT Tata Motors Indonesia.

"Indonesia is a potentially huge market for Tata Motors, which has a wide range of products - from small cars to buses in the passenger vehicle segment, and mini-trucks to heavy trucks in the commercial vehicle segment. The products will be launched in 2013," said Karl Slym, the Managing Director of Tata Motors, during the inauguration of PT Tata Motors Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"The presence of Tata Motors in Indonesia is inspired by the needs and aspirations of the country's consumers," he added. "We will operate keeping in mind the prosperity of the country and its society," Slym stated. Before Tata Motor, India had Bajaj Motor operate in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Tata Motors Indonesia, Biswadev Sengupta, noted that "based on research that has been done", the needs of Indonesian consumers were similar to those of consumers in India.

"We are very confident and are able to provide intelligent mobility solutions for consumers in Indonesia. Currently, the main focus is to build a strong service and spare parts network," he said.

Sengupta added that PT Tata Motors Indonesia would launch most of the auto giant's products after having 15 authorized dealers who can provide sales, service and spare parts across the country.

"In a period of three years, Tata Motors is targeting to open 60 dealerships, 100 workshops and more than 300 spare parts stores. The company also has plans to set up a manufacturing base in Indonesia in order to serve other countries in Southeast Asia," he explained.
