The police chief clarified that the withdrawal of the investigators had nothing to do with the investigation of the alleged corruption in the procurement of driving simulators by the Traffic Police Corps.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo said that replacements have been found for 20 police investigators who had been withdrawn from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"I have explained about (the withdrawal). We have done the same thing previously, as well. This is a normal procedure and we are preparing substitutes," the police chief said here on Monday.
Around 80 police investigators were attached to the KPK and 20 officers from that batch have been withdrawn from their deputation and attached back to the Police Headquarters` Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim).
"The withdrawn investigators have worked in the KPK for four years and we have found the best substitutes for them," Timur said.
He clarified that the withdrawal of the investigators had nothing to do with the investigation of the alleged corruption in the procurement of driving simulators by the Traffic Police Corps.
The KPK has already named four suspects in the case, including two police generals Ins. Gen. Djoko Susilo, former chief of the Traffic Corps and his deputy Brig. Gen. Didik Purnomo and two civilians.
The two civilian suspects are Budi Susanto, the president of PT Citra Mandiri Metalindo Abadi (CMMA), which won the tender for the procurement of the driving simulators and Sukotjo S Bambang, a director of PT Inovasi Teknologi Indonesia (ITI), a sub contractor of PT CMMA.
The anti-graft commission began examining the case in January 2012 and started investigations on July 27, 2012 after the issuance of an order for commencement of investigations into the scam worth Rp198.7 billion.
The KPK has also barred the 4 accused from traveling outside the country.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Teddy Rusmawan was the chairman of the auction committee for the procurement of the driving simulators.
Meanwhile, the police have released a list of five suspects in the Driving Simulator Project case but have not included Djoko`s name in the list. All 5 suspects have been arrested, including the remaining 3 on the KPK list of suspects.
Those in the police list of suspects are Brig. Gen. Didik Purnomo, Budi, Sukotjo and two middle ranking police officers, Adj. Sr. Comr. Teddy Rusmawan, as the chairman of auction committee and Comr. Legimo, as the treasurer of the Traffic Corps.
The three police officers and Budi are in police detention and Sukotjo is already in prison, serving a 2.5 years jail term in a related case in Bandung, West Java.(*)
