"A team of prosecutors has been formed to investigate the corruption case."Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The North Sumatra High Prosecution Office is investigating alleged corruption involving the management of a unit of the state electric company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) in the province.
The spokesman of the prosecution office Marcos Simaremare said here on Tuesday that he could not give details about the loss suffered by the state as a result of the alleged corruption.
Data collected showed the state suffered a loss of Rp15.3 billion in the illegal procurement of 18 hectares of land for the PLTA Asahan 3 hydro-power plant built in the village of Batu Mamak in the regency of Toba Samosir.
The land, the management of the PLN unit claimed to have acquired from local people turned out to be part of a protected forest in that area.
Marcos said the office began by summoning some of the villagers for questioning about the illegal process of selling lands to PT PLN for the power project, PLTA Asahan 3.
"A team of prosecutors has been formed to investigate the corruption case," he said.
The team has just started investigation by questioning certain people involved or believed to have information about the case, he said.
The team already visited the village of Batu Mamak to collect more information from the villagers, he added.
Investigation of the case is based on a report from the villagers to the high prosecution office in Medan that the land used for the project is state land.
