The price of an LCGC car was not more than US$10,000 or about Rp100 million.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will soon issue a regulation on low cost and green car (LCGC) production, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said.

"We are now waiting for the president to issue a presidential decree. We expect that it will soon be issued in the coming several days," the minister said during the launch of Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla cars here on Wednesday.

He said the price of an LCGC car was not more than US$10,000 or about Rp100 million.

Toyota and Daihatsu have developed their market which is in line with the government`s commitment to developing LCGC cars, the industry minister said.

"The local contents of Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla cars reached 84 percent. This is an encouraging achievement. Toyota and Daihatzu are expected to ask their sub-contractors in Japan to invest in components which could yet been produced in Indonesia," the minister said.

Hidayat said that the government also hoped that car sales would be expanded to regions in the country to reduce traffic jams in big cities.

"The government could not ban production of cars. What has to be done is to build infrastructure such as roads," the minister stressed.(*)
