Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta`s General Election Commission here on Saturday announced that Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) have been elected the province`s new Governor and Vice Governor for 2012-2016.

"Jakarta`s General Election Commission announces today that Jokowi and Ahok have won the regional election and will be Governor and Vice Governor of Jakarta as of Sept 29, 2012," spokesman from Jakarta`s polling body Sumarno said here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chief of Jakarta`s General Election Commission Dahliah Umar said Jokowi, who is now incumbent Mayor of Solo city, Central Java, must resign from his post before being officially sworn in as Jakarta`s governor.

Dahliah added that any party that is dissatisfied with the election results has three days to file a claim to the Constitution Court (MK).

"If a claim occurs, we will wait for a final decision to be made by the Constitution Court. If there is no claim, Jokowi and Basuki will be inaugurated as Governor and Vice Governor of Jakarta next October 7," Dahliah said.

Based on data from the election commission, 2.472.130 people or 53.82 percent of voters cast their ballots for Jokowi-Ahok. The couple surpassed the number of votes received by incumbent Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo and his partner Nachrowi Ramli by 2.120.815, or some 46.18 percent of the votes.
