He was taken from his detention cell at the National Police Headquarters` Criminal Investigation Department in Jakarta on Friday night.
Nusakambangan is an island in Central Java which houses correctional institutes for notorious criminals, including terrorists such as Amrozi, Imam Samudera and Muklas, who have since been executed.
Ba`asyir is reported to be jailed at Batu penitentiary on the island.
When contacted at Wijayapura port, the harbour point used for crossing to the Nusakambangan island, Batu Jail head Hermawan Unianto said Ba`syir would not receive special privileges.
He did say, though, that the Muslim cleric would not be placed in those cells that were used to jail Bali I bombing terror death convicts Imam Samudera, Amrozi and Muklas.
"Ba`asyir will be put into a cell along with three other aging inmates. This is because Ba`asyir is already old and his health will be monitored by his doctor," Hermawan said.
He added that in sending Ba`asyir to the Batu Jail, the number of convicts in terrorism cases in the Nusakambang jails had reached eight persons.
"One is in the Batu jail, namely Ba`asyir, one in Kembang Kuning jail and the remaining six in Pasir Putih jail. I do not remember their names," he said.
Last February, the Supreme Court announced that it had rejected an appeal filed by firebrand cleric Abu Bakar Ba`asyir and upheld the ruling made by the South Jakarta District Court in June 2011 sentencing Ba`asyir to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty of running a terrorist training camp in Aceh.
Ba`asyir responded to the Supreme Court`s decision by saying "it was in line with the US order."
The US has also formally included hard-line Islamic group Jemaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT), an organization founded by Abu Bakar Ba`asyir in 2008, on its list of foreign terror networks.
The US Department of State said on its website that the group was responsible for multiple coordinated attacks against innocent civilians, police and military personnel in Indonesia, according to a Jakarta Post report last March.
