"This was included in the government`s strategic plan to control HIV/AIDS."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government has set a target that approximately 95 percent of Indonesian teenagers should have comprehensive knowledge about HIV/AIDS by 2015, according to a health ministry official.

The Health Ministry`s Director General for Disease Control and Environmental Health (P2PL), Tjandra Yoga Aditama, made the statement here on Monday, noting that "the targeted age group is 15 to 24 years old".

"This was included in the government`s strategic plan to control HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (IMS) during the 2010-14 period. The target was to raise the number of teenagers with comprehensive knowledge about HIV/AIDS from 65 percent to 95 percent," he said.

"It is also aimed at limiting the prevalence of HIV sufferers in the age group of 15 to 49 years to 0.5 percent, and increasing the number of people aged 15 years or older who have received counseling and undergone HIV tests from 300,000 to 700,000," Aditama added.

He stated that the main objective of the policy was to bring down the AIDS-related mortality rate in Indonesia to zero percent.
