Hanafie, said .Bintan, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - An unmanned drone which crashed in the waters off Pucung Island, Malang Rapat, Gunung Kijang, Bintan, was retrieved by Tanjungpinang Air Base personnel on Monday.
The Tanjungpinang Air Base military personnel collected the wreckage of what is suspected to be a surveillance drone for further investigation.
"We are still investigating," Chief of Tanjungpinang Air Base, Lieutenant Colonel MJ. Hanafie, said here on Monday.
The crashed drone was first seen by local fisherman Mukhir at 6am local time, when he was fishing off the coast of Pucung Island. He later reported it to the police.
The drone`s red-coloured airframe was 2.5 metres long, while its wings were yellow in colour and two metres wide.
"There are inscriptions reading `banshee' and `5498' on its airframe, with `Meggitt' printed on its tail," Hanafie noted.
"An orange parachute was also found during the evacuation process, suspected to have been deployed when the drone failed," he added.
No one has claimed the drone's ownership yet.(*)
