I (came to the parliament) to report that my term of office will end on April 1, 2013," Mahfud said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Constitutional Court (MK) chairman Mahfud MD denied a rumor on Thursday that he had tendered resignation.
"There has been a rumor that I will resign. I should like to affirm that I will not resign. I (came to the parliament) to report that my term of office will end on April 1, 2013," he said.
But Mahfud added that he will not seek a second term in office as MK chairman. Neither will he extend his term of office as constitutional judge, he said.
He expressed hope that the House of Representatives (DPR) will soon find his successor.
"Under the law, MK chairman must report to the DPR six months before his term of office expires," he said.
The one-time lawmaker from the Nation`s Awakening Party (PKB) said he reported to the DPR on October 2, 2012 that his term of office will end in six months` time.
He said he will serve out his duty as MK chairman in the next five months.
Mahfud said he was pleased to become MK chairman. "But I must stop the pleasure. Otherwise, I will get misled," he said.
He also denied a rumor that he will run for the presidency in 2014.(*)
