"The Resort Police chief has the security situation under control," he said at the State Palace here on Tuesday.
"The police have stepped up security in the area by sending a company of mobile brigade police, who will assist in maintaining peace," Timur continued.
He explained that the shooting incident, involving unidentified gunmen, took place at 4 am local time on Tuesday, in which three policemen were killed.
Timur said the police were still investigating the case."Let`s await the results of the investigation," he added.
Papua Regional Police Command spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Gede Sumerta told ANTARA News that three police personnel were killed at the incident.
They are Second Inspector Rofli Takubesi, who was the chief of the Pirime police sector, Brigadier Jefri Rumkoren and First Brigadier Daniel Makuker who were members of the police sector. (*)
