Monti, leading a non-elected technocrat cabinet, said he would step down after passing a budget and a financial stability law, British broadcaster BBC reported.
President Giorgio Napolitano's office said in a statement that Monti `made clear his intention to present his resignation, as quoted by the BBC.
Berlusconi, who earlier on Saturday announced he would run for office again in 2013, said Monti`s policy had harmed the country.
PdL withdrew its support for the government on Thursday.
