Purwokerto (ANTARA News) - Dozens of students of state University of Jenderal Soedirman in Purwokerto, Central Java, held a peaceful rally on Sunday to mark the commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day.

In the rally the students expressed their support to the country`s anti-graft agency KPK in its efforts to settle corruption cases it is now handling.

They raised banners reading among others "Support KPK" and "Fight Corrupters" and distributed small stickers carrying a printed text reading "Being Honest is Great".

The president of the university`s student executive board, Irfan Irianto, said students supported the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in its efforts to investigate thoroughly all corruption cases in the country.

"We also urged law enforcement agencies to arrest and try all intellectual actors behind corruption in the Century Bank, Hambalang and Athlete Village projects that have caused billion rupiahs in state losses," he said.

Action coordinator Akhmad Khoryrun Najakh meanwhile quoting a release from the Transparency International the country`s said that the country`s corruption perceptions index was up from 100 to 118 this year.

"It shows that corruption in Indonesia is getting more acute and worse compared to other countries in the world as well as in Southeast Asian region," he said referring to Malaysia`s index of 54, Thailand`s 88 and the Philippines` index of 105.
