Palu (ANTARA News) - Police in Poso, Central Sulawesi, have arested a terrorist suspect following a firefight in the Koroncopu hills in the village of Tambarana, on Wednesay.

"The terrorist suspect caught, S by his initial, is now being intensively examined," regional police chief Brigadier General Dewa Parsana said when contacted for his confirmation on the incident here on Thursday.

He is believed to be one of the civilian armed group members the police tried to arrest in Karoncopu.

The firefight lasted for around an hour leaving one police officer wounded while the terrorist suspects numbering more than five had fled into the jungle.

The clash occurred while the police were trying to raid a hut in the Korocopu hill forest following reports about people carrying firearms.

Around 30 police officers were deployed in the operation. Following the clash the police confiscated two revolvers made in PT Pindad and an FN as well as hundred rounds of bullets of various sizes and types.

The police raided the hiding place of an armed group in Kalora village in Poso at the end of October during which one was dead and several villagers were caught.
