Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is planning to build a port at Cilamaya, Karawang district, West Java, in 2019 as part of effort to reduce congestion in Jakarta, Vice Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono.

"The construction of Cilamaya port will commence in 2019 or 2020," he said on the sidelines of a discussion themed "reducing congestion in Jakarta" on Friday.

The plan is relevant to the concept of decentralized city, he said adding that the development of decentralized city is the best concept to reduce congestion in Jakarta.

"Decentralized city is the best because centers of public activities will be split," he said.

In addition to building the new seaport, the government will also plans to build an airport on Jakarta`s eastern outskirts, he said.

"We will strengthen the development of eastern and western outskirts and not southern outskirts which functions as a water catchment," he said.

The plan to build the new seaport and airport is aimed at reducing activities in the center of Jakarta, he said.

Cilamaya is a strategic location for the development of the new port because it is surrounded by seven large industrial estates, he said.

He said Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta is expected to reach a saturation point in 2018 and 2019.
