Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The creation of the law on village administration should be transparent and not influenced by political pressures, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said here on Saturday.

"It must be formulated in a transparent manner and not because of certain political pressures, because that could be detrimental to the nation and the State," Gamawan said.

He noted that there were a number of demands during a demonstration by thousands of villagers at the Parliament building on Friday, saying their concerns should be taken into consideration before the law is enacted.

During the demonstration, villagers demanded that the bill on village officials be passed into law, and sought to assure that it includes 10 percent of state budgets be allocated to villages, and the term of office of village heads be extended from 6 to 8 years.

But related to the welfare of village heads, the home affairs minister agreed that their salaries should not be lower than the regional minimum wages in their areas.
