Sentul, Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - The ruling Democrat Party`s chief patron, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, called on party cadres here on Saturday to prepare themselves to win the general elections in 2014.

"Let us do again what we did when we won the general elections in 2004 and 2009," he said in his speech at the commemoration of the party`s 11th anniversary here on Saturday.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is also the president said "we won in the two general elections through good planning, preparation and implementation accompanied by unity and hard work, That is what we din then. There was no miraculous method and no free ride."

He said winning an election would be an honor for the party as the victory would open an opportunity for the party to build the nation and the country to improve the people`s welfare.

He said however that the victory must be made with civility and using ethical methods.

"Winning an election is a noble thing as with it we will have an opportunity to lead and run the country. Let us achieve it using good and ethical politics and not the principle of "ends justify the means". We must be tough in the fight but must keep using good ways," he said.

He said winning an election is not easy as "we must be able to understand the people`s aspirations."

The event was attended also by Mrs Any Yudhoyono, the party`s general chairman, Anas Urbaningrum, and all central and regional board members as well as party`s advisory board members.

SBY on the occasion thanked all components that had so far supported the government`s programs and secured them.

"I am proud of the Democrat Party," he said.

On the occasion he offered an apology to the public with regard to the behavior of some Democrat Party cadres that they had considered bad.

To all national components and political parties he called for continued maintenance of their good relations so far to jointly advance the country.
