"We live in the era of globalization. We are aware of the bad impact of globalization. Not only does globalization pose a threat but also it offers opportunities. I suggest that you should be smart and wise to take advantage of every opportunity for the benefit of our country while at the same time maintaining our identity and heritage," he told representatives of the Overseas Indonesian Students Association at a symposium here on Thursday morning.
The President said the Indonesian students who are pursuing higher education abroad should be able to think globally.
"By studying abroad they have a better knowledge of every thing so they know what position is our country at a global level, know what has been good for us and know what still needs to be improved," he said.
The Overseas Indonesian Students Association is holding an international symposium in New Delhi from December 18 to 22. Representatives of the association`s branches in 23 countries are taking part in the meeting.
The President was during the occasion accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, Education and Culture Minister Muhammad Nuh, Industry Minister MS Hidayat, Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Syarief Cicip Sutardjo, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam and Indonesian Ambassador to India Rizali Wilmar Inderakesuma.
