Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s chief minister for people`s welfare, Agung Laksono, has arrived at the Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado, North Sulawesi. He will be heading to the Philippines to extend aid to the victims of the Bopha storm.

He will extend aid to the victims of the Bopha storm in Davao, the Philippines, on Saturday.

According to the head of the information bureau the minister`s office, Safri Burhanuddin, the Indonesian government will provide 2,500 blankets, 2,500 pieces of tarpaulin and 2,000 tonnes of rice to the victims.

"However, the shipment of the aid has been hindered by bad weather conditions. Hence, Agung Laksono will send 100 kg of blankets, 100 kg of tarpaulin, 100 kg of baby food and 100 kg of medicines later," he said.

The Indonesian government had promised to give US$1 million to the government of the Philippines. The Indonesian government had given the money to the defence forces commander, Admiral Suhartono, during a joint military exercise with the armed forces of the Philippines.

Agung Laksono had been accompanied by several officials.

When the Bopha storm hit Palawan and Mindanao on December 4,648 people were killed, 569 people were unaccounted for and thousand others suffered injuries, according to the Philippines` National Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

A total of 394,778 families or 1,765,710 people were affected.

As many as 27,108 victims are now being accommodated in makeshift evacuation centres.
