There are currently about 45 Far Eastern leopards worldwide.
Vldivostok (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Russian and Chinese scientists say the leopard population in Russia`s Far East has not declined.

The conclusion was made after the scientists finished the first stage of a Russian-Chinese leopard count in Russia`s Primorsky Krai, the Interfax news agency reported.

The experts studied the traces of the wild cats in the National Park Land of the Leopard and Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve. It will take time to establish the exact number of the leopards in the Russian territory.

The second stage of the count, scheduled from late January to early February, will count the leopards in two protected areas of China located along the border, including the Hunchun Nature Reserve.

There are currently about 45 Far Eastern leopards worldwide. China and Russia decided to share the experience in protecting the leopards, which are constantly migrating from Russia to China and back.
