"Most of the construction is completed."Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The World Bank`s representative in Indonesia has urged the government of Aceh to complete the construction of a bypass road from Meulaboh in West Aceh to Calang in Aceh Jaya.
"We hope the government of Aceh will complete the construction of a bypass road from Meulaboh in West Aceh to Calang in Aceh Jaya. Four kilometres of the bypass road need to be constructed. The remaining part has been completed," said the World Bank`s Operational Officer in Indonesia, Agus Samsudin, in Meulaboh on Thursday.
He made this statement after a report was released, based on the World Bank and the Aceh Regional Consultative Forum`s assessment of the Meulaboh-Calang bypass on January 7.
Samsudin said the 50-kilometre Meulaboh-Calang bypass is part of a programme initiated by the World Bank and the Multi-Donor Fund (MDF) to rebuild areas affected by earthquakes and tsunamis.
According to the report, the road in Aceh's west coast area has met Indonesia's infrastructure standards.
"Most of the construction is completed. We hope the government of Aceh completes the construction of the remaining four kilometres of the road," said Samsudin.
According to the World Bank, the bypass project is progressing quickly, he explained.
Samsudin added that the construction of the Meulaboh-Calang bypass road had begun after 2,100 parcels of land were acquired in mid-2011.
"The project has been progressing well because of the dedication of the stakeholders. We hope this project will boost the development of Aceh," he said.
