Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Flooding has forced the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to postpone investigations of two witnesses in the Hambalang corruption case.

KPK has summoned Andi Zulkarnaen Mallarangeng, better known as Choel Malarangeng and Kahar Muzakir for questioning on Friday as witnesses in the case in which Choel`s brother former sports and youth affairs minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng is a suspect.

Deputy chairman of KPK Bambang Widjojanto said the flood water has damaged KPK`s power generator and the electric voltage regulator that cut power supply to the office of the anti graft agency.

"Investigations could not be conducted without electricity," Bambang said here on Thursday.

He said with the postponement, a new invitation has to be sent to the two witnesses.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said, there would be no investigation of cases by KPK on Friday as special facilities for investigation such as CCTV and recorded could not function properly.

KPK has banned Choel from leaving the country since Dec 3, 2012 to ensure that he is available any time KPK wants to question him.

KPK wants to question him as he is considered to know much about the case of Hambalang sports center project

Choel was implicated in the case by former treasurer of the ruling Democratic Party Muhammad Nazaruddin, who is already serving jail term for receiving bribe money in another case of sport facility project.

Mindo Rosalina, an executive in a company owned by Nazaruddin, said in a court she tried to bribe Wafid Muharram, former secretary of the sports ministry with Rp20 billion to arrange that the company won tenders of various projects owned by the ministry.

Mindo, who also is convicted in the same case with Nazaruddin, said the money was originally set aside for Choel to ensure that Nazaruddin`s company was involved in the development of the Hambalang project.

Audit investigation by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) said the Hambalang case caused a loss of Rp243.6 billion to the state. (*)
