Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said flooding in Jakarta which had taken place from Tuesday to Thursday killed 11 people.

"Five died of electrocution, four of advanced age and sickness and two children died of slips," BNPB Head for Public Relations and Information Affairs Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said here on Friday.

The two children who died were Muhammad Haikal (2) and Angga (13). Haikal died after he fell from his bad on the flooded floor when he woke up from sleep. Angga died after he slipped and carried away by water flow into a river.

"Now the focus of BNPB is save more lives and stop more deaths," Sutopo said. The BNPB has coordinated with the state-owned electricity firm PLN to help prevent further electrocution victims.

"But in reality, many residents go out of his house to watch floods while in fact it is quite dangerous," he said.

Thursday`s floods in Jakarta affected residents in 910 RTs (neighborhood sections) and 337 RWs (neighborhoods) in 74 villages scattered in 31 sub districts.

The number of residents who were affected by floods reached 97.608 families or 248,846 people. Of the number 15,447 were evacuated to safer places and emergency shelters, makeshifts or tens.

The BNPB could not make an estimate on the losses incurred by the floods.

Jakarta floods in 2007 inundated 231.8 sq km of the capital city, killed 80 victims, caused 320,000 people to evacuate and incurred a loss of Rp4.3 trillion.

Also Mak Inah (82), Kampung Pulo, Jatinegara, East Jakarta; Mujiyo (46), RT 05 RW 05 Kel Kedaung Kaliangke, Kec Cengkareng, West Jakarta: Muhamad Haikal (2), RT 05 RW 05 Kel Kedaung Kaliangke, Kec Cengkareng, West Jakarta; Solahuddin (35), Kalibata Pulo, Kec Pancoran, South Jakarta; Wahyudi (26), electrocuted in a restaurant in Kel Pancoran Glodok, Kec Taman Sari, West Barat; Raif Anjar Agasi (13), Tanjung Duren Utara and Masuriyah, 50, RT 02 RW 14 Kel Warakas, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
