"Because of the rise of refugees, the available equipment became scarced."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reported that the number of flood refugees in Jakarta jumped more than two-fold on Saturday, compared to the number of those on Friday.

"The number of evacuees rose on Saturday from 19 thousand to 43 thousand," BNPB Chief Syamsul Maarif said to the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday.

The president received the report when he visited a refugee camp in Otista Sport Hall together with several ministers and the Jakarta governor on Sunday.

The increase in the number of refugees, Syamsul added, raised the need for additional equipment.

"Because of the rise of refugees, the available equipment became scarced," he said.

BNPB itself has established two posts, first in Jakarta City Hall and the second at the Ministry of Public Works.
