Some of the fiber optic networks were cut off because of shortage of electricity supplies from state-owned electricity company PLN.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Communications and Information said some telecommunications infrastructure facilities in flood-affected locations in Jakarta were still off due to floods.

"The floods affected some telecommunications infrastructure facilities. Some of them are still off now," Gatot S Dewa Broto, the head of the ministry`s Information Center and Public Relations Affairs, said here on Monday.

The disturbance of the telecommunications facilities was purely caused by the floods, which hit Jakarta on Thursday last week, he said.

Gatot explained that some of the fiber optic networks were cut off because of shortage of electricity supplies from state-owned electricity company PLN.

"But as a whole, all telecommunications operators are making optimal efforts to prevent bad impacts of the flooding. They are among others using electricity generators, repairing networks and continuously checking certain points which are still in the recovery stage," he said.

Thus, the optimal efforts are effective in restoring the telecommunications service conditions, Gatot said.

"The Ministry of Communication and Information is still continuing to build communications with operators to give special attention to a number flood locations," he said.

Gatot said that the flood locations that needed special attention included Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, Kalibata, Cengkareng, Penjaringan and Pluit.

The ministry urged telecommunications operators to conduct social services at flood locations and publish the numbers of their call centers so that the public could immediately contact operators if they experience disturbances.

He said that public could lodge complaints to the operators if the conditions in the field are different from what had been reported.

According to Gatot, the services of a number of operators up to Saturday relatively remained good.

He said that official reports mentioned that telecommunications services well as the Internet were running well, including those of PT Telkom, Telkomsel, PT Indosat, PT XL Axiata and PT Sampoerna Telekomunikasi.

Two base transceivers stations (BTS) of PT Sampoerno Telekomunikasi, are however still off because of the shortage of electricity supplies, he said.(*)
