Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta governor Joko Widodo who is affectionately called Jokowi has asked for immediate collection of garbage from recent big floods in the city.

"The city sanitary service must immediately collect it so that it would not pile up like this," he said when checking garbage pile-ups along Kali Mati river in Gedong Panjang, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Sunday.

The head of the city sanitary service, Unu Nurdin, said he would immediately deploy dump trucks to collect it. "We will deploy around 1,000 dump trucks to speed up the collection," he added.

He said his office had already moved in several areas so far and "until now we have collected up to 5,000 tons of garbage. The amount is far above the ordinary level and so it was really from floods," he said.

He however said that it was impossible to collect all the garbage in one or two days.
