"It depends on the local administration to choose"
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Transportation E.E. Mangindaan said that Kalimantan needs railway networks to improve the transportation infrastructure in Indonesia`s largest island.

"It is time for Kalimantan to have railway networks for transportation," Mangindaan said in a release here on Tuesday.

The rapid economic growth in Kalimantan, especially in mining and plantation sectors must be compensated with proper infrastructure development, Minister said.

Mangindaan said there were some investors from China, Germany and Russia, who have been interested in railway networks construction in Kalimantan. "It depends on the local administration to choose."

The railway construction would focus on the development of freight networks for the mining and plantation sectors in the initial phase.

The railway networks for people transportation would be developed afterwards.

Minister said the government would always been ready to commence the project but the execution would depend on the agreement with local administration.

Mangindaan also hoped that the railway construction to start in 2013 as there was no problem in the land acquisition.
