Budapest (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed an immediate settlement of an arson attack against Ogan Komering Ulu police station in South Sumatra.

"Prevent the incident from spreading and try to find the best possible solution immediately," President Yudhoyono said in a press statement here on Thursday evening.

The Indonesian head of state said he had made direct communication with National Police Chief Gen Timur Pradopo about the conflict between policemen and TNI soldiers in Ogan Komering Ulu district on Thursday.

"I believe the National Police chief, TNI chief, and military commander have worked hard to settle the incident," the president noted.

The president has ordered the police chief to investigate the arson attack.

On Thursday morning dozens of military (TNI) members on motorcycles attacked the police station in Ogan Komering Ulu on and burned it leaving four police members suffered stab wounds.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Julian A Pasha also said the president has contacted the national police chief and ordered him to immediately investigate the incident and act against the perpetrators.

He said President Yudhoyono who is currently in Hungary for a state visit had been informed about the incident by the national police chief.

"The national police chief has been ordered to go to Ogan Komering Ulu and in coordination with the regional police command chief and the regional military command chief to personally see what had really happened," Julian said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto has asked security agencies to probe attacks.

"I order the police and military chiefs to deal with the situation," Djoko said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He also asked the police and military chiefs to exercise self-restraint in order to prevent the incident from spreading.

Security situation in Baturaja city where the police station is located was tense following the attack. The incident also disrupted public activities. (*)
