Chairman of the House Commission XI Emir Moeis at the meeting asked the newly-elected BI deputy governor to struggle for national interests while performing his duties and tasks as a member of the central bank`s board of governors.
"We have some notes for Perry to perform his duties. One of them is that the central bank must side with farmers, fishermen, small and medium scale businesses, the real sector, and national economic interests in implementing its macro-prudential policies," he said.
The House Commission also recommended that the new BI deputy governor strengthen coordination between the central bank and the government in managing fluctuation in the rupiah`s exchange rate and its pressure on the country`s fiscal burden.
"In addition, we also have suggested that Bank Indonesia adopt formula which gives priority to the national economy in managing foreign capital inflows," he said.
Under his letter dated August 29, 2012, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono proposed two candidates for the BI deputy governor to replace Budi Mulya who entered retirement on November 29, 2012.
The other candidate is Hendar who is BI`s executive director for monetary management.
After conducting a fit-and-proper test on the two candidates, the House Commission XI decided to elect Perry as BI deputy governor-elect for endorsement at the plenary session.(*)
