"More produce have been available these days than yesterday."
Solo (ANTARA News) - The price of garlic that has skyrocketed earlier last week in the markets in Solo and its surrounding areas to Rp60,000 per kilogram dropped drastically on Wednesday to Rp37 thousand.

Meanwhile, for the price of shallot that has also soared to Rp50,000 per kilograms has decreased to Rp35,000 per kilogram, said traders in the town`s Legi central market here Wednesday.

"Yes, both shallot and garlic prices have simultaneously decreased following an abundant supply of the goods in the market. More produce have been available these days than yesterday," said Sri, a shallot and garlic trader in the Legi Market.

Sri said that on Tuesday (19/3) morning, the price of both red and white onions were still high. The merchants bought garlic at the price of Rp57,000 per kilogram, while shallots at Rp47,000 per kilogram.

"Yes, but in the evening the shallot price dropped to Rp33,000 per kilogram, while garlic fell to Rp35,000 per kilogram," she said.

The sudden decline in the shallot and garlic prices have made traders overwhelmed due to their expensive stocks of the goods, as noted by vegetable trader Darni in Sidodadi market in Solo.

"I really was overwhelmed with the shallot price sudden fall yesterday (Tuesday March 19) because I still have a hefty stock of garlic and shallots and it has caused a huge loss for me," he complained.

Darni claimed that now she sells garlic for Rp37,000 per kilogram, while the garlic is sold at Rp35,000 per kilogram.

In the Legi wholesale market the shallot price is Rp33,000 while the garlic price is Rp35,000 per kilogram. ***3***
