Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Deputy Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama on Thursday met Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan to discuss urban forest development in the nation`s capital.

"I met (Minister) Zulkifli to discuss open green spaces in Jakarta, particularly the urban forest development," Deputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said after meeting with Zulkifli Hasan in Ministry of Forestry building, Jakarta on Thursday.

Ahok said there were some land remaining to be developed as urban forest in Jakarta. However, those spaces belonged to the Forestry Ministry.

"Now, the Ministry and the administration agreed to develop those land spaces to be urban forests," Ahok said.

According to Ahok, the Minister had also been eager to plant trees along Jakarta`s sidewalk to make greener environment.

"He had always wanted to plant trees, five meter high, along the city`s sidewalk," Ahok said.

On the same occasion, Minister Zulkifli said the open green spaces in Jakarta had covered only 9.8 percent of the total area of the city.

"I urge the Jakarta administration to develop more open green spaces in the Capital City by establishing urban forest," minister said.
