Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Herd of wild elephants entered human settlements in Mandau District, Bengkalis, Riau, causing residents damaged crops and panic.

"We all panicked and run directly," a villager, Juwono, 39, said here on Friday.

The statement related to herd of wild elephant have entered village since three days a go in Balai Makam Village and damage crop are harvested. He said, the elephants usually had come to the village at night when electricity have been off.

Juwono estimated there are seven until eight elephants included son of the trunked animals.

Even more, the elephants also left debris that strewn around the garden, in the road of Jalan Tuanku Tambusai, Balai Makam Village. The residents have reported the matter to head of village Agus Har for further action.

Juwono said the resident also have reported to Riau Central officials Natural Resources Conservation (BBKSD) in Duri, Mandau.

The herd of elephants entered villages in the district also occurred last week but can be cleared by using the sounds.
