Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Evacuation team for landslide mitigation at Mukapayung village, Cililin sub-district of West Java province has discovered two other bodies that makes the total casualties of the disaster to 12 persons.

"The last joint group has found two other bodies, first at 09.00 am and the second is at 09.40 am," said Head of West Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Udjwalprana Sigit in a phone interview with ANTARA here Wednesday.

Sigit said last two bodies that have been discovered by the team were unidentified yet.

"The identity of the last two bodies has been unidentified yet. The total landslide victims that have not been discovered are five persons who still buried by soil," Sigit said.

He added the evacuation effort on the third day was hampered by bad weather that made the condition of field become more severe.

The victims searching effort is difficult due to the officers only using manual tools, without assistant of any heavy equipments.

Sigit said heavy rain on Tuesday evening had caused continuation of small level landslide.

"We are appreciating and would like to thanks to the civilians assistant for the extraordinary mitigation effort of Cililin landslide," Sigit said.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that heavy rain which poured since Monday (March 25) at 03.00 am have triggered the landslide at Cililin.

BNPB said the construction of residences in the 40 -- 60 degrees slope and the plantation of similar vegetations in the area also triggered the landslide.

The agency noted that Mukapayung region at Cililin include to the area that are prone to high level landslide.(*)
