"The local government agencies should prepare and alert the local people in the face of possible worst event as a result of the increased volcanic activities of Mt Guntur," Andi said here on Saturday.
Andi made the remarks in connection with the increased volcanic activities of Mount Guntur whose status was raised from normal to an alert level on April 2, 2013.
Based on its history, Mt Guntur has horrible eruption experience. "We hope the increased volcanic activities would not end up in an eruption," Andi added.
Head of Geological Disaster Mitigation Volcanology Center (PVMBG) Surono said Mt Guntur in Garut, West Java, had experienced several critical conditions marked with continuous volcanic tremors.
He said that the agency had observed three times of volcanic tremors.
However, the tremors would not decide an eruption because it should be accompanied by other factors such as clogging at the mount peak which was able to hold the eruption energy, he said.
Surono suggested the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) should provide directives soon for residents on emergency response to reduce disaster impacts.
The BPBD should provide the directives soon as an anticipatory effort to face possible eruption and to enable the locals to evacuate to safer places, he said.
