Jakarta (Antara News) - South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Young Sun on Friday said Indonesia can play a constructive role in easing recent tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

"I hope Indonesia can play a constructive role for the development of the relations between South and North Korea," Ambassador Kim said in a special interview with Antara.

The ambassador reiterated good diplomatic ties between North Korea and Indonesia which started from 1961, while South Korea established diplomatic relationship with Indonesia in 1973.

In fact, Kim Yong Nam, President of the Supreme People`s Assembly of North Korea, visited Indonesia at the invitation of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in May last year.

"Indonesia has very traditional relationship with North Korea and Indonesia is a leading country in this region," Ambassador Kim said.

From the written answers given to Antara, Ambassador Kim cited important role of Indonesia as a leading country in ASEAN to send a unified and clear message to North Korea in coordination with the international community.

Asked the concerns about war possibility in Korean Peninsula, Ambassador Kim said, "It`s very peaceful. If you watch Korean TV program, not so much of tensions. There`s no country or embassy have embarked on evacuation."

He also expressed that there are still many tourists visiting South Korea despite growing concerns over Korean Peninsula.

Ambassador Kim said that North Korea is very good at psychological warfare and they are carrying out the so-called scare tactic campaign.

Commenting on North Korea`s continuous threats, Ambassador Kim stressed, "We don`t have to overreact to every single word of North Korea. They intended to destabilize the situation."

In regards to possible loss of South Korean businesses in Indonesia, Ambassador Kim expressed, "I hope this will not affect any of our corporation in Indonesia,"
